History

God’s vision regarding how this church would impact this community began in 1991 when a young couple from Tacoma, Washington, left friends and families and came East to Bible College and Seminary.  Jeff and Nancy Wisot had committed to a life of “reaching people and changing lives” and were seeking where God would have them serve. Nancy had already spent more than two years as a missionary in Jamaica and India, and Jeff two years serving in Children’s Ministries in Tacoma. But after graduation, God began prompting them to move to the Elkton/Newark area to start a new work, a new church, centered on the grace and mercy of God.

It began with a few friends sharing God’s love, door to door evangelism, and a small group Bible study. The group grew to 30 families and stepped out on faith to purchase a property on the corner of Otts Chapel Rd. and Old Baltimore Pike. Over the next 10 years God worked in so many ways to reveal his faithfulness.

In March 2004, church leaders learned that our current location was being vacated and upon investigation, happily discovered that it met almost perfectly the long term needs outlined in the ministry vision. This building, only two miles from the first building, could house a larger sanctuary, more Sunday school and youth classrooms, additional church offices, classrooms for Delaware Bible College, a gymnasium, and space for the operation of Community Hope of Delaware (a public charity founded to meet additional needs in the community). On the grounds, we’ve added new soccer and baseball fields, a new playground, gymnasium, a walking trail and upgrades for concerts, weddings and other special events.

The new foyer and sanctuary were completed in March 2006 and Life Community Church desires to be an encouraging source of people of every age and background.

The vision continues as we seek to serve and support the community in a variety of ways, including  marriage seminars, financial management seminars and youth recreation and training programs.
