Jim Kirby
Email: jkirby22@gmail.com
Jim attended The Stony Brook School For Boys, then Moody Bible Institute. During his Bible training he was drafted into the armed service. He elected to join the Air Force and became a qualified Chinese linguist serving four years in the intelligence community. He was thrice awarded the Air Metal for conduct during combat air missions during the later part of the Vietnam war.
After leaving the military, Jim began an apprenticeship in fine woodworking. After five years he established his own facility in the San Francisco area. During this time he married Elvi, and the two of them
Jim purchased his father’s business, Kirby-Smith Associates, a specialized church fund raising organization which began in 1937. With his father now retired, Jim and Elvi revitalized and modernized the company. Through this avenue into a wide variety of church denominations across the nation, Jim was given unique opportunities to share his faith and preach the message of salvation and Biblical stewardship. Having served over 400 churches, and feeling that his original purpose with his father was fulfilled, Jim sold the firm and purchased a hardwood lumber company.
It was through the use of this lumber company as a financial base that Jim found and developed his two passions; Christian education and love of Central America. He helped found Dayspring Christian Academy, a Principle Approach K-12 school in Lancaster, PA. During his 24 year association with this school he served on its board of trustees twice, including a nine year term as its chair. His quest for unusual hardwood lead him to Central America where he confronted its poverty and lack of decent education for the poor. He helped found an orphanage in Honduras, served on its board, and developed a donation sponsorship program in another.
Most recently, and now free from the responsibilities of business ownership, Jim and Elvi are responding to God’s leading by becoming involved in a ministry in central Mexico, MissionMexico.
